I read The Judds: A Biography when it was first published. I was a teenager at that point, and I remember thinking how horrible of a mother Naomi Judd was. Keep in mind that I am from Kentucky, where the respect for the Judds is a given.

I read Ashley Judd's book to get her side of the dysfunctional family saga. It is in the book, but it is so intertwined with her mission work. Don't get me wrong, her advocacy for women and children across the world is admirable. However, it is not why I read this book.

Regarding her mission work, Ashley Judd is very much a social justice advocate. That was a bit sickening.

All That is Bitter and Sweet is very well written. Ashley Judd definitely has a story to tell. This just is not what I expected.
